ALWAYS ON CALL: history and stories of the Lawrencetown & District Fire Department

Volunteer fire fighters are essential to the protection of our way of life. Without volunteers, most communities would have no fire protection at all, they simply could not afford it. This is the history and stories of a department who not only gives when the siren blows, but continually gaves back to the community to make it more prosperous.

(opening passage of book)
Events throughout history have been recorded in many different ways. I have found that two of the most interesting methods have been pictures and diaries. Many families have aold pictures in shoe boxes and albums somewhere in their house. In some cases, they are forgotten about all images have been left us along that nobody knows who is in the picture or the year it was taken. How many times have we said, "if only they had written the names on the date on the back of the picture!"

Diaries on the other hand are very different. They generally give detailed descriptions of events with dates. There are sometimes themes, the comings and goings of people, major events and of course the weather. The people of Lawrencetown are fortunate, in that they have a very detailed and informative diary by businessman Edmund Stevens between the years 1887 and 1904.
